Macro-Keyboard

As a left-handed person, it has always been a little uncomfortable to work on a graphics tablet. The standard Photoshop hotkeys are simply not optimised for the right hand, and the keyboard would get in the way.

The solution is a small, handmade macro keyboard that has all the hotkeys I need in one compact area. It is only a prototype at the moment, but it has already become a useful companion on my desk.

Lessons learned

• Successful proof of concept
• Handwiring is tricky and takes up a lot of space
• QMK provides an awful user experience
• Next version needs custom PCB
• Layout could be more ergonomic, especially for thumbs
• Micro-switch takes up more space than expected
